If you've ever tried to fold a buggy one-handed while a toddler is doing their level best to bolt across a car park, you'll understand why the phrase "one-hand, one-motion fold" lands like a gift from the universe. Stokke is set to launch its brand-new YOYO5 stroller on 1st September 2026, and on paper at least, it looks like it was designed by someone who has actually lived through the chaos of early parenthood.
What's new with the YOYO5?
The YOYO range has long been a favourite among parents who want something genuinely compact without feeling like they've compromised on quality. The YOYO5 builds on that with a stack of upgrades that feel less like marketing bullet points and more like real-life solutions.
The headline feature is that new one-hand fold, which works on both the frame and the handlebar. Anyone who's wrestled a buggy into submission while holding a wriggly baby in the other arm will appreciate that one. The handlebar folds down independently too, which means the stroller can pull up flush to a café table like a chair. A small thing, maybe, but the kind of small thing that makes a difference on a wet Tuesday morning in town.
The seat has been made wider and more padded, with a refined head cushion, an integrated five-position leg rest and a deeper 149° recline for when small people need to nap on the move. The suspension has also been upgraded to independent four-wheel suspension with Hytrel® dampers, which is Stokke's way of saying it'll handle cobblestones, gravel and the general disorder of Irish streets without rattling the life out of your little one.
For families planning to use it from birth, the YOYO5 Newborn Pack folds together with the frame, keeping that signature compact fold from day one. There's also new ventilation at the foot end and canopy for extra airflow, plus easier basket access for those moments when you're frantically trying to find a snack at the bottom of the pram bag.
How does it compare to the YOYO3?
Stokke has been fairly upfront about what's changed between the YOYO3 and the new YOYO5, and the upgrades are meaningful rather than cosmetic. The weight has gone up slightly from 6.2 kg to 7 kg, but Stokke says it's still light enough to carry one-handed up stairs or onto public transport. The folded size is marginally bigger at 52 x 45 x 22 cm versus 52 x 44 x 18 cm, but still compact enough for cabin baggage overhead storage, which will please anyone planning to travel with it.
The biggest practical changes are the one-hand fold (absent from the YOYO3), the enhanced suspension and the improved seat comfort. For parents already on the YOYO3, it's worth a look if those are areas where you've felt the limitations.
